Luninetsky District was established on January 15, 1940. It is located in the eastern part of Brest Region in the center of Belarusian Polesie. The district borders Pinsk District to the west, Stolin District to the south, and Gantsevichi District to the north. The area is 2.7 thousand km². Agricultural land covers 29%, forests 40%. The population is 79,100, with 37,700 living in urban areas. Administratively, the district is divided into one town council and 7 rural councils, including 80 villages and the towns of Mikasevichi and Luninets. The administrative center is the town of Luninets.
